My Saddest Unboxing: The Almost Perfect Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 (14AHP10)

Wow. Is this thing still on? taps mic.

It’s hard to believe I’m writing this, but my last post was way back in 2020. Life got busy, Covid-19, things changed, and this blog went quiet. After a long vacuum, I am absolutely thrilled to be back at the keyboard in 2025 and ready to start writing again.

You might also notice a small change in the address bar. My old home on the web was nicois.me. In a classic story of "oops, I forgot," the yearly renewal slipped past me and the domain was gone. So, please allow me to reintroduce myself: Welcome to my new blog at nicoisme.com! It feels great to have a fresh start.

And what better way to kick things off than with some new tech? I was genuinely excited to share this unboxing with you all as my comeback post. It was supposed to be a triumphant return with a fantastic new gadget.

But, as you’re about to see, it didn't quite go as planned.

I'm Back! And My First Laptop Unboxing of 2025 Was... a Sad One.

Today was supposed to be a fantastic day. I had a brand-new laptop waiting for me, a device I was incredibly excited to get my hands on: the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 (14AHP10). This isn't just any laptop; it's the Cosmic Blue model rocking the new AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor and powerful Radeon 780M graphics.

I was ready for a great unboxing experience. But… something unexpected happened, turning excitement into sheer disappointment.

The Heartbreak in the Box

I ordered the laptop online from an authorized seller on Shopee Indonesia. When the package finally arrived, my heart sank. There was a noticeable hole punched through the outer cardboard box. Instantly, I had a bad feeling.

Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed. After opening it up, I found a small but undeniable dent on the top aluminum cover of the laptop. It’s not catastrophic, but it’s there. When you invest in a premium, sleek, and powerful new machine, you expect perfection. A flawless device to unbox and admire. This was not that.

Honestly, this might be the saddest unboxing I’ve ever done.

Putting the Dent Aside: This Machine is a Beauty

Trying to look past the damage for a moment, let's talk about the laptop itself, because it truly is an impressive piece of kit. The Cosmic Blue color is stunning, and the full aluminum chassis gives it a solid, premium feel. It has that minimalist, professional vibe that I really appreciate—slim, clean, and relatively lightweight.

The display is a major highlight: a 14-inch WUXGA OLED panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It boasts 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, DisplayHDR True Black 500, and TÜV certifications for low blue light, making it both gorgeous and easy on the eyes.

Under the Hood: A True Powerhouse

This is where the IdeaPad Slim 5 14AHP10 is set to shine. The spec sheet is packed with the latest tech, promising incredible performance for both productivity and light gaming.

Inside the box, the contents are standard: the laptop, a charger, and the usual paperwork. It also comes with Windows 11 Home and a bundled copy of Microsoft Office Home 2024, which is a great value-add.

First Impressions (Ignoring the Flaw)

This dent really hurts, especially on a laptop with this much potential. I will definitely be reaching out to the seller to see what can be done.

Despite the damage, I powered it on. The first boot was seamless. The keyboard feels comfortable and tactile, and the large touchpad is smooth and responsive. But that OLED screen… it’s absolutely gorgeous. Blacks are truly black, colors are vibrant and pop off the screen, and the taller 16:10 aspect ratio is perfect for getting work done.

Final Thoughts... For Now

So here's my honest first impression: the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14AHP10 is a beast on paper and looks and feels incredible in person. The performance potential is huge. But my entire initial experience has been soured by the damage it sustained during shipping.

I wanted to share this story exactly as it happened because it's a real part of buying tech online. It’s not always perfect.

I'll be putting this machine through its paces for a full review and benchmark test soon, so we can see how the Ryzen 7 8845HS and Radeon 780M really perform. Stay tuned for that.
